Introducing.....
Wendy Matthew - CPC Nurse
|
I moved to Auckland, New Zealand from Dundee, Scotland over one year ago as my partner is a Kiwi and we thought we would try a different way of life.
I started working as a nurse with the Community Team at Hospice North Shore about 2 weeks after arriving in the country. As you can imagine I had to deal with a lot of change over that time including new country, new house and new job. This was coupled with missing my family and friends in the UK.
From the minute I started at Hospice North Shore I have been made to feel like a member of the team. Not only the Community Team but the whole team, from the CEO to the volunteers, which has made me feel so welcome and valued. This has meant that the transition from the UK for me has been so much easier to deal with and now I can't see myself working anywhere else.
The focus at Hospice North Shore is the patients and their families. We all work so hard to ensure that the patients receive the best care possible and we all aim for the same goal to deliver the best service possible. I can honestly say that this has been the best job I have ever had and would recommend working for Hospice North Shore to anyone!

Words from Ciska a 16yr old Rangitoto College Gateway student.....
"I would like to thank you for the opportunity of working in the healthcare industry and for making my time I spent at Hospice North Shore very welcoming and enjoyable.
I have gained a huge amount of knowledge and I have learnt many different things while working with the Hospice. I am now very conscious of patient/client needs and have an insight into providing strategies so that they may get through hard times. This meant a lot to me as I have met some very special patients/clients during my placement and they have truly touched my heart. I also learnt how healthcare professionals are required to demonstrate rules regarding confidentiality, ethics and consumer rights. I also found it very interesting to experience the business management side.
This experience has definitely changed my life. Through my role at Hospice North Shore I have matured and changed my outlook on life in a positive way, trying to appreciate everyone I have because you never know what might happen. My experience at Hospice North Shore has definitely cemented my choice in pursuing a career in healthcare.
I would like to thank you, Nadine, Ginette, Lynn, Mary and all the other staff members who I have had the honour to meet. I have had a truly unforgettable experience that I will never be able to re-experience at any other place. Hospice North Shore has an amazing team and an inspiring ethos. I hope for all the best in the future for everyone at Hospice and I would love to come back to visit in the future".
