It is a pleasure for me to write a brief introduction to the loyal and generous supporters of Hospice North Shore. I have been here for nearly two weeks now and have been very warmly welcomed.
My professional background is in nursing. I enjoyed a varied career starting out in Critical Care and gradually moving toward the haematology and oncology specialties. Caring for people at the end of their lives proved to be both the most challenging and the most rewarding parts of my role, so when an opportunity came to move into nursing management at what was then St Joseph's Hospice, I willingly took it. I stayed at Mercy Hospice Auckland (as it is now known) for over 19 years, and was Chief Executive for more that six years.
My passion for hospice and palliative care remains today. I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity to take all that I have learned to date and bring it to another community. In the meantime I am learning a great deal from my colleagues here. I have long admired the huge groundswell of support that the local community have provided Hospice North Shore. Each day I am also very touched by the number of volunteers who support the hospice in a wide variety of roles.
Thank you for all that you do to make this the extraordinary organisation that is it.
