Elite School of Beauty and Spa Therapies North Shore campus have generously supported Hospice for over 18 months. As part of their course, students come into Hospice Day Group each month and pamper our patients with manicures, pedicures and massages. For our patients it is a treat to receive such gentle treatment, an opportunity to interact with young people and we’ve witnessed a lot of vast knowledge being passed onto the students from some of our patients.
Beverley, who had never had her nails professionally done in her life, looks forward to her monthly ‘treat’ and told us that,
“They really are lovely girls and it is fantastic what they do for us. When we are not feeling well it is a real ‘pick me up’. It is a privilege to let the girls practise on me….in fact I could do it every day!”
Michelle, Campus Manager explained,
“Community work is an important aspect of training at Elite Mairangi Bay for a number of reasons. Giving to others really epitomises the number one quality of a successful beauty therapist; we work in an industry that focus’s on making others feel better. Our students and staff greatly enjoy the experience of working on hospice patients and find it not only infinitely rewarding, but that they gain valuable skills which assist them to obtain employment in the future also.”
And the support doesn’t stop there. Last month we were delighted to receive a donation of $4,000. Over the past year the campus held client days and evenings where the students are able to practice on the public who pay a small sum for their pampering. The students chose to donate all the money they had raised to Hospice North Shore.
