Our volunteers are special to us. We consider them a core part of the Hospice North Shore family. When you become a volunteer we take it seriously, acting with professionalism and compassion. This includes a short orientation session and additional training, depending on what job you will be undertaking.

Introduction & Orientation to Hospice North Shore

When volunteers join Hospice North Shore, we want them to feel comfortable and confident with their new place in the Hospice family. We introduce them to Hospice North Shore by sharing our vision, values and giving them a preview of some of the work we do each day. During this session they meet other volunteers and leaders of Hospice North Shore, such as our Chief Executive, Jan Nichols.

Reflective Practice

These sessions are an opportunity for all volunteers and especially for those who have regular contact with patients and their families to meet on a regular basis and reflect on the work you do. The purpose of these sessions is to provide a forum where issues can be raised and discussed in a safe environment so people feel comfortable that they have the knowledge and skills needed for their volunteer role. The experiences of other volunteers can be shared so people can learn from the collective experiences as well as to ensure good service to the patients and their family.
