Volunteering in a Hospice Shop is a great way to meet interesting people and develop new skills, while making a big difference to the lives of patients and families in the care of Hospice North Shore.
Volunteers work regular shifts, serving behind the counter and helping to sort and price donations. Most shifts are for four hours, once a week. We are always looking for volunteers for our Hospice Shops. To find out more, please contact our friendly Volunteering team by e-mail or by calling (09) 485 3581.
Hospice maintains a pool of cars that our nurses and doctors use to visit patients in the community. We are looking for volunteers to assist us in keeping the cars clean and tidy by washing them and the occasional vacuum on a rotational basis. The cars are mostly used during the middle of the day so the cleaning needs to occur between 8-10am or after 2.30pm generally. The cars are kept and cleaned in our garage at Shea Terrace and all cleaning materials are supplied. So if you have a passion for cars and would love to see our pool of cars kept sparkling and clean, please contact us.
The hub of Hospice North Shore is definitely the kitchen! Nothing makes the Hospice more home-like than the aroma of home baking. Volunteers in the kitchen work together with our Housekeepers to prepare and serve meals and maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen. Shifts are available throughout the week (including weekends), and are generally two hours long.
To register your interest, please contact our Volunteering team by e-mail or by calling (09) 485 3581.
Volunteer drivers provide transport to and from patients' homes to Hospice's Inpatient Unit in Takapuna, and occasionally to hospital appointments. Requests may be any time between 9am and 4pm.
If you're able to donate your time by being a volunteer driver, please contact our Volunteering team by e-mail or by calling (09) 485 3581.
Our Community Visitors are kind, friendly, empathetic volunteers who visit patients in their homes to provide respite for their caregivers. Visits are usually 2-3 hours long and conducted on a weekly basis. In order to be fully prepared for this role the volunteers are required to attend a one day Palliative Care Course on site at Hospice North Shore.
